"I Have to Tell You Something..."

"...and you're not gonna like it." That was how I started our conversation last night. Of course, Jake didn't have the foggiest idea what I was talking about. So I told him how I had put the sprinkler on the new grass growing on a huge dead spot in the yard, and how I accidentally forgot about it for two hours. Oops. He replied, "Oh. Well.... I have something to tell you about." His implication was that his was much worse.

Suddenly my mind was racing to every possible bad thing he could have done, finally deciding he must be talking about a speeding ticket or small car wreck. After what seemed like minutes of pause, he continued, "I put the sprinkler on the garden last night, and sort of forgot about it until this morning. It was on for twelve hours." I burst out laughing. After all those horrible things I had thought! You know, I had wondered why he jolted out of bed and ran out of the bedroom with such haste.... We both are now refusing to water, since both of us are bad at it, but he claims that since his was worse he should get the out. Convenient.

The garden still looks fine. So far we have our cool weather plants in (snap peas, carrots, radishes, and broccoli), and they are all growing really well. I thinned the radishes the other day, and we tasted a few of the larger ones--spicy, but delicious!

We'll see who wins out on this one.
