For Christmas, my Mom got me a Don Aslett broom/dust mop. I really liked the one she had when I was a kid, and I got really tired of using a regular broom over the last ten years (in my experience, they pick up about half of what is on the floor, and the things that are swept are hurled across the room because I'm apparently too strong for my own good).
Jake's grandma has a Shark steam mop, and when I clean her house once a week, I've learned the wonders of steam mopping. After using this for quite some time, I've realized how much better it is than my current Swiffer WetJet (which totally kicks the trash of mop and bucket in my book). I finally broke down and invested in a Bissell steam mop during a huge sale at Shopko last week, and here's why I love it:
- It uses water. That's it. No chemicals (which is nice since Grant loves to crawl around on and lick the floor after I mop) and no expensive refill pads. It costs more up front, but definitely pays for itself.
- It is simple to set up, simple to use, simple to clean. It uses microfiber pads that I can just throw in the wash when I'm done. No mop that needs rinsing and drying, no big bucket or sink full of nasty water.
- Even smashed, dried-on strawberries came off of the floor after letting the steam penetrate for a few seconds. No scrubbing involved.
- It disinfects if you leave the steam in one spot for five seconds or longer.

I want to know if you like the Don Aslet broom thing. I HATE sweeping and I would love something that worked well.
