Infantile Singles Ward

I noticed the other day as I subbed in Grant's Nursery class just how similar it is to my singles ward experiences:
  • They have fantastic energy and excitement for every little thing.
  • They are often not as grown up as they think they are.
  • Emotions run high, girls (particularly) fight over silly things, and the boys sit there looking at them like, "What on earth is wrong with you? Why are you crying?"
  • Food is a great motivator.
  • Any toy is more exciting when someone else wants it. The more attention the toy gets, the better it looks to every other child!
  • The genders often stick to their own.
  • They are sponges when it comes to learning about principles of the gospel.
  • Music is a powerful teaching tool.
  • They learn how to get along with others.
  • The older kids can be a great help in teaching the younger kids how to act or what to expect.
  • It is a lot of work for the leaders of the class, but it is a blessing for the parents and the kids.
  • Fun and friendships are integral parts of the experience.
  • They are often happy to get into Nursery (naturally, since they've been forced to sit quietly through 70 minutes of Sacrament Meeting), and are often even happier to leave when the time comes. I mean, who would really want to stay in Nursery forever?

This is my favorite part. I've known a lot of "toys" that would have been ignored if there wasn't already someone who wanted it. Then it just snowballs from there. . .
