Our most recent news items are:
1. Jake was accepted to BYU for his master's program in Linguistics/ Editing for this fall. Four months ago he had no idea what he wanted to pursue, and he threw around ideas like studying law in California or landscaping at Utah State. Once he settled on the Editing route, however, the pieces just seemed to fall into place. Because Grant was early, Jake ended up having to take the GRE on a week's notice after having spent the last four nights on a hospital couch with a crying baby waking him up all night long. Luckily, he survived. Next was trying to get the application in by the deadline two weeks later. It truly must be right, because doors are opening everywhere. He got a job as an editor at BYU's Religious Studies Center and has had numerous other job offers already. He is so good at what he does, and I am so glad to see him happy! This brings us to the more recent news...
2. Jake is one of five interns accepted to work full-time this fall at the Church magazines--it may not sound like it, but this is a really big deal in the LDS editing world and will bring opportunities to him that he could't get anywhere else. There is one person assigned to each magazine and one to the Church News. He was chosen as the intern with the Liahona, which is the first of all the magazines to be created each month. As he was creating his portfolio he told me he didn't think he had a chance, but he really has an impressive resume for an undergraduate student, and his interview went very well. Yippee!! Grant and I are so proud of him!
3. Jake's final BYU Men's Chorus performance is this weekend, and it will be recorded and shown on PBS. He has had a wonderful experience singing with them this year. They are one of the best all-male choirs in the nation, and now I can see why!
I am currently the Relief Society Education Counselor in our ward, which keeps me on my toes. I taught released-time LDS Seminary until Grant was born, but I am glad to have the opportunity to now be a stay-at-home mom.
We have been given so many blessings already this year!
