Arts and Crafts

My YourStory machine is fabulous! The one problem is that their 11x81/2 line (portrait style) won't be out for another two months, so my scrapbook pages will have to wait for a while before I can bind them. I keep trying to think of other things I can bind instead. Here's my first project. Well, Jake did the bulk of the work, because he is the one that actually made the book about our wedding for a design class last year. I just cut off the spiral-bound edges, stuck them into the cover, put it in the machine for two minutes, and voila! A book! We wanted it to be brown to match the sepia pictures, but they don't sell brown 8x8 covers... Again, that's the one problem. It's only been around for a year or so, so the accessories are still trickling in. The covers are plain, so I jazzed it up with some ribbon.

My next YourStory project is going to be a 6x6 book containing copies of my collection of blessings (patriarchal, as well as notes from several other blessings I've had over the years). This will be a great way to be able to carry them with my scriptures without worrying about losing one of them. A few years ago I lost my patriarchal blessing during my move to Utah, and I didn't find it for over a year. I am determined to not let that happen again!

Here's a project I made a few months ago. Today I had to re-attach the expensive hanger on the back (made from a twist tie from a loaf of bread), so I thought I'd snap some shots while I had the chance.

I needed some color to hang on a bare strip of wall next to my cabinets in the kitchen. After an exhaustive search for a picture of some kind, I decided to be creative. I found a placemat with the avacado/mustard colors in our kitchen, and I glued some gold ribbon in random square patterns to it. A square of cardboard made it steady, my hanger was glued on, and then I stuck some pictures of us on it. Perfect size, perfect colors, and so cheap! Yay!

Look out Martha Stewart! That's a really good idea to bind your blessings into a book. I want to come see this thing in action sometime.

I'm impressed you were willing to place your wedding pics into the hands of your husband. I don't think I would EVER do that. Very good! Love the placemat idea!

I love your wedding book! That's really cool. Also I love what you are dong for Grant, he is lucky to have you in his family. I was also going to let you know I was reading some blogs and saw where they held a yard sale to raise money and thought maybe if you still need more funds you guys could do a "wheels" yard sale for him.
