My son has become quite the spirited guy lately. By spirited, I mean gutsy and oh-so-grown-up.
This morning we were coloring together, and decided that he'd rather strip the crayons of their wrappings. When he got to a brand new brown one, I said, "Oh, maybe you shouldn't do that one." Brand new crayons are sort of precious to me, at least until I've used them once.
Grant didn't agree, though, and he said in a patronizingly high voice, "It's okay Mom. Don't be scared. Be brave. I just take the paper off. See? It's okay!"
He's always giving me lectures lately. "No, Mom, I can't love carrots. It's okay, Mom. I love cake!"
Oh, now I see! Why couldn't I understand the wisdom of your actions before? Thank you for enlightening me, oh wise one!
His memory amazes me, especially since I've always wished my memory could work more efficiently. He found a blue beach towel this morning and showed it to Dad: "Look! Pizza, big french fries [breadsticks], and lemonade! Yay!" I think he was hoping we'd sit down right then and there and have a picnic in the living room like we did a few months ago. How on earth does he remember that?
The other night he was calling family and friends on his "Lightning the Queen" cell phone while in bed, and we heard him say, "Grandma Lyla! Hello!" His greetings always sound like a command. But then he said, "Hello! Is this Jesus?" and proceeded to hold a conversation with Him. So cute! But after a while I called out that he needed to close his eyes and sleep.
His response?
"It's okay, Mom! I busy!"

I love fresh crayons too. We compromise. I let them destroy some eventually, and when the crayon box is too ugly for me, I buy more. Yeah, new crayons.
I love how smart he is and his excellent memory. They always seem to remember things out of the blue, but you know it is the things they loved, so it is worth doing again.
p.s. I loved your other post too. I hope I am not one of those women. I like to try and focus on the positive, but I'm afraid I may have said comments like that before but more with the 'I know how you feel' instead of the 'I had it worse' mentality.
Yeah Grant! Keep on communicating :) It's Ok Mom, he is helping you understand his thought process-LOl! Chelsea if he ever call's Jesus again please get out the camera and record the call ;) LOVE YOU GUYS!!!
