I've been wondering if this was coming, because the signs were all there. Now I know for sure! Let me explain myself.
Today at lunch I fed Grant some cherry tomato guts, whole wheat bread chunks (two of his favorite snacks), and applesauce. He started ignoring the applesauce after a while and I saw him squeeze his chunky little fingers into a fist. He spread his fingers open wide, then closed them into a fist again. I asked him if he wanted milk but there was no recognition on his face. I grabbed a bottle and showed it to him--this time his face lit up, and he squeezed his hand over and over (each time spreading his fingers wide in between). I showed him the bottle as I was making it, repeating the word "milk" over and over. He got excited again and made the sign even bigger. As I took him into the living room he stared at the bottle and continued to make the sign; even after he started drinking, those little fingers opened and closed for a good ten seconds.
I have wondered if he has been making the sign in the past but wasn't sure if it was just a coincidence. Now I know! I hope he continues to sign "milk"--I could see a light go on inside his head today as if he were thinking, "Hey, it works! She knows what I want!"
I love days like today!

oh I love that!! I only had enough ambition to do a couple signs with Carter but I beamed with pride every time he did them and just loved it. He did "more", "thank you"..ah man I forgot what else...but these 2 were the most used. Good job Grant!
That is so cute!!
Woo-hoo! It's the best!
I can't wait to see him do that! I have never tried sign language with any of my girls, maybe with the next one!
Yeah! That's great! What a smart little boy.
